Thank the Gods I can turn my hand to both hair or make-up, such a buzz to get booked on jobs that challenge me in both fields. Over the last month I got to flex my creative muscle, designing and making tattoos and sparkly teeth-grills for a commercial and sowing three white wigs together to create one HUGE Afro for the incredible performance artist Imma/Mess. What other job allows you to sculpt, spray paint and hand-make things? All things I love to do!
Once the commercial shoot was wrapped, I was off for a few days to Liverpool and Manchester with the beautiful Alexa Chung for the launch of their new NailsInc Spray-Can nail vanish. Making clients up in a hotel room with low mood lighting is never ideal, but my assistant saved the day by holding a side lamp used as spotlight!
My saving grace is knowing Alexa’s facial features like the back of my own hand, it must be our tenth year working together. Plus, looking the way she does, you could get her ready in the dark and she would still step out looking breathtakingly beautiful.
Who loved The X Factor final this weekend WHOOP?? I must admit being a little sad the series is over. What am I going to do with myself not working with Mr. Nick Grimshaw several times a week? I never realized one show could have so many people working on it – I mean hundreds! Amazing team behind the scenes and such a fun show to work on! I’m always in my element on the set of a buzzing live show, as every day turns into a massive social frenzy of making new friends and industry contacts.
The thing about working with boys/men is, they are always so easy and quick. I loved working with the one and only Quentin Tarantino (yes, the man himself) this week. Even if I’m slightly jaded from a late night shoot, don’t let your guard down or be fooled, male clients deserve just as much attention to detail as women do. Impressing your clients each and every time is the only way to get booked again.
The adorable Rochelle Humes requested I do her hair for a shoot for Sunday’s You Magazine. I’ve known her for years, so it was great to finally do my thing with her newly cropped shorter hair. Interpreting the creative brief, I am extremely happy with the cool, textured, swept-to-the-side hairstyle I created for her. She truly is an incredibly beautiful woman and pure joy to work with.
After such a busy few weeks, I cannot wait to hit the holidays to recharge and get some sun….
Happy Holidays and here’s to a fabulous 2016!
